Since childhood I dreamt of being a fashion designer and never gave it up,in 1991 I did my Diploma in Fashion Design from BILAMS Kolkata and launched my label Studio Elegante(in French meaning a fashionable woman) and did my first solo exhibition at Genesis Art Gallery in 1992,displaying contemporary clothesline. I even had the opportunity to exhibit in UK and USA .In 1996 I moved to Jaipur after getting married to Sandeep and the second part of my journey began ..I was lucky to have been married into a family where my husband was the fourth generation into creating customised bridal lehangas ( poshak) for the Royal families of India under the name Mangalmayee !! I slowly moved into assisting my husband with the business , helping it grow with designing and administration .
The passion for design with new ideas gave birth to my label Jaipur Pink in 2007 and on 22 June 2012 opened my store Jaipur Pink by Sunita Burad!! My label was inspired by the most iconic monument of Jaipur “The Hawa Mahal ” and the colour of the city ” Pink”,reflecting the soul of the heritage city.I opened it with a dream to bring the essence of India under one roof ,expressing art in varied forms and mediums. The broad categories of my store is Artifacts Fashion Home and everyday I have the opportunity to express myself without being restricted by any boundaries of design. I believe in ethnicity, simplicity , elegance, innovative designs and fine finishes.
Jaipur Pink is all about natural fabrics, handcrafted, handmade, unique- our clothesline reflect timelessness, colour palette expressing peace to passion , accessories bohemian, mood is soft to vibrant !!
My new collection Love u Bengal -is a tribute to my birthplace , my heart beats for the City of Joy , the simplicity of life inspite of such wondrous craftsmanship like Kantha, Batik, Jamdanis, Handlooms, village crafts & the essence of art in it’s soul…The love for the street foods – puchkas, jhaal muri,Bengali samosas remains in the taste buds forevermore.
The delicate and intricate Mughal block prints is soothing and is expressed well in my store and so is my love for Ajrakh from Bhuj , the prints traditional and modern in vegetable dyes gives an earthy character to my collection. The multi coloured silk cushions hand embroidered in Aari, Zardozi, Gotapatti adds drama and festivity to the shelves depicting the essence of Rajasthan.
Creativity and my love for coffee is crazy that I launched the collection “Coffee with Rajasthan” last season -a series of digital images & words played with an element of fun expressed on Cushions, Bags, Coffee Mugs, Folders!!
An artist life is fulfilled if one is able to express his thoughts and emotions.. I am lucky to have had this opportunity as Jaipur Pink is a huge canvas and everyday I can paint it to my choice .I love to travel, listen to music, be close to nature and love my family & friends.
My work brings me joy and immense satisfaction and my journey would be impossible without the support of my family, friends, my team members, vendors, craftsmen, block printer, tailors and all those behind the scenes and most importantly my customers who have showed their love for me by being patrons at our store. Hoping to extend the goodness of life from me to all , to be part of a social change, to live beyond myself…
